A Walk for Peace

The Buddhist Monks historic walk for Peace may have ended last February 2026, but the work for peace continues on.

As I look back on their journey with their beautiful little dog, I still feel inspired that there can be a better world. One that is full of joy and hope. So many people came out to greet them, to see them in person and have some kind of human to human contact, as if to say, we see you, and we are with you.

Everyone was enamored with their rescue dog that chose to become their faithful companion in India. I too loved seeing the interviews and the lovely flowers given to the monks as they passed through town after town, quietly walking with Aloka at their side. How so very appropriate that Aloka means “light”.

As artists here at Pinecone, we were also struck by the gorgeous colors and patterns of the fabrics of their blankets and robes.

Karla at Cherrywood Fabrics must have been inspired by their beauty as well, so she made an 8 step bundle called Buddhist Monk. The colors are rich, warm and deep. From Burgundy to Topaz, it is truly a beautiful set of colors befitting of the source of the inspiration.

Their little rescue dog is named Aloka, which fittingly means “light” joined them as they walked in India for 112 days.
